Services included in the Personal Radiation Monitoring Service

The Australian Radiation Services Pty. Ltd. (ARS) Personal Radiation Monitoring Service (PRMS) has many valuable features that make it a first-rate choice for the radiological protection of any company.

Australian National Standards

All calibrations of dosemeters in the PRMS are traceable to the Australian National Standards as required by law.

Dosemeters

ARS offers a range of passive dosemeters to suit any working environment and monitor the majority of radiation fields. This range includes film badges and TLD badges for whole body monitoring and TLD finger monitors for evaluation of radiation dose to the extremities.

Issue Periods

All film and TLD badge dosemeters are issued on a monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly basis and TLD finger monitors are provided monthly. In the standard issue protocol, dosemeters are posted from ARS mid-month to ensure receipt by the date of badge changeover, on the first of the month (used dosemeters are returned to ARS and new dosemeters are issued to workers).

Dose Reports

ARS provides a formal dose report to the client two weeks after receipt of used dosemeters. This dose report indicates the personal dose equivalent (Hp(d)) for each worker who receives a dose greater than the minimum reportable dose. For whole body irradiation, the dose equivalent is representative of the dose received by the body at a depth of 10 mm under the skin (Hp(10)). In low energy radiation fields, dose equivalent is representative of the dose received at a depth of 0.07 mm (Hp(0.07)), for example, the dose received by the skin. Hp(0.07) is of particular importance in finger monitoring where a depth of 10 mm is unachievable.

In line with Australian regulations, Australian Radiation Services Pty. Ltd. will provide the client, and the state regulatory service with a copy of all dose reports. A final copy will also be filed confidentially and remain at ARS for 50 years. A copy of all dose results is also submitted to the National Dose Registry.

Follow-up Procedures

In the event of employees receiving above-average doses, ARS will provide consultation on how to improve work practices. ARS is also a supplier of perspex shielding, lead bricks and lead pots to ensure the dose received by workers is As Low As Reasonably Practicable - ALARP.

User Friendly

ARS' Personal Monitoring Service is designed to be user-friendly and is supported by a staff that is always willing to answer questions that you may have. This applies to both the application of the PRMS in the workplace and how to ensure your workplace is radiologically sound.
