Australian Radiation Services - Historical
Australian Radiation Services Pty. Ltd. (ARS) was formed in August 1996 to provide expert advice to organisations whose staff handle ionising radiation sources. Dr. Joe Young, the Managing Director, is the Principal Consultant Health Physicist of ARS and his experience in the field of radiation protection spans more than 33 years.
For the majority of this period he was employed by the Australian Radiation Laboratory in the field of general health physics, personal radiation monitoring, thermoluminescent dosimetry, ionising radiation standards and neutron dosimetry.
Dr. Young obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Physics from Strathclyde University in Scotland and his Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne. His career has included tenures at the National Radiological Protection Board and the National Physical Laboratory in the United Kingdom and Physiklisch-Technische Bundesansalt in Germany. In 1995 he visited Outer Mongolia at the request of the International Atomic Energy Agency to set up a Personal Dosimetry Service. Dr. Young is a Chartered Radiation Protection Professional of The Society for Radiological Protection.
